Our Mission
The ultimate goal of eDocNY is to significantly increase the number and quality of employment opportunities in the information technology industry for persons with developmental disabilities. Employment opportunities like those available with eDocNY, particularly those conducted in a client’s facility, make it more likely a developmentally disabled person will: increase his/her earnings potential; have greater control over his/her life; develop relationships that range from acquaintances to life partners; be able to live in a home of his/her choice, with whom he/she chooses; and enjoy inclusive recreation and other leisure activities that contribute significantly to a person’s quality of life.
The staff of Westchester Arc is masterful at creating good job matches, the successful placement of 300 consumers in area companies, and selling the capabilities not the disabilities of their consumers, including persons who are developmentally disabled, learning disabled or autistic. Starting with young people as they transition out of high school, Westchester Arc staff work closely with the students, their families and teachers to develop plans that will help these young adults to realize satisfying careers and to become contributing members of their community.
Westchester Arc like other organizations supporting the disabled, believe that as many as possible of their constituents should be prepared for careers and have the opportunity for jobs alongside non-disabled workers based upon their preferences, interests, and strengths.
